Great invention!
I didn't know such a thing even existed until recently, and I have over 100 floppy disks that I felt were useless. Yet, with this Floppy Disk Drive I have just spent a happy and nostalgic afternoon looking through long forgetten files and photos stored on my old floppy disks.

Using this device could not be easier. I just plugged it in a USB port, and that was it. Ready to go. Put a floppy disk in and could click on the files to see what was on it, and even transfer items to my computer (which I can now make copies of on to a CD and store them that way). Strangely, I also tried storing some new files on the floppy disks, and that works as well. So, if you want a floppy disk facility, as we always used to have on computers, then I can really recommend this product.

Not Windows 7 compatable
I am using two computers, one running Windows XP with which this floppy drive works fine, just plug and play, the other running Windows 7.
Windows 7 will not recognise this drive so all "and above" Windows users beware.

What do I do with all these floppy discs?
Whilst clearing box files the other day I came across about a hundred old floppy disks. Before junking them I thought I should just check through them and remove any personal information. Looking around the computers in the house, including ones that had been stored "just in case", none of them had floppy disk drives. When did that happen? So on to Amazon and chose the Trixes, as it was one of the cheapest and at a price that I would not complain if none of the disks had anything that needed to be wiped.
Well it came and I spent a couple of days working through the disks, finding old stuff that I had forgotten about and was surprised how old some files were (1993!). All interesting items have been painlessly transferred to a USB memory stick. I now have a pile of blank floppy disks having reformatted them all.
The disks are still waiting to go in the bin, but if I do have a rush of blood to the head and want to use any I have a great little disk drive that will work on any...

Cheap and Simple
The drive arrived very promptly and worked without any problem. I have used it to download data from old floppy disk, and this has worked out a charm.

On my Windows XP SP3 PC, the drive was up and running within seconds of being plugged in. It read about 50 diskettes from my 90s' backups of accounts and payroll without any hitch on all but two of the diskettes. Though I cannot rely on my memory totally, I recall having trouble recording onto diskettes prior to the disk drive on the PC I was using at the time failing completely. My hunch is that these two diskettes were corrupted or improperly formatted and that is why the USB drive would not accept them. Certainly I do not criticise the USB drive at all for not reading them.

So, I am pleased to have been able to transfer those backups without fuss or hold-up onto up-to-date media. (Quite what I shall ever need to do with such historic data is another question.) My impression was that the USB drive accessed and read diskettes every bit as quickly as did the built-in drives of the PCs on which the back-ups were created. Great drive, very useful, but short USB cable.
Great external USB floppy drive. Very useful for installing RAID drivers when building a PC where you want to install Windows on a RAID volume. I have uploaded some photos of this product, which I hope will be useful. The main reason for writing this review however, is to point out that the USB cable is rather short. This is probably as it is expected that the drive will be used with a laptop. Some USB devices, especially those that draw all of their power from the USB port, have trouble working with certain USB extension leads. I can confirm that this drive seems to work fine with the following 1m extension lead.
